Virtual reality (VR) in simple terms is the use of a computer or digital simulation and software to create an artificial environment needed for immersive learning. 

It involves the use of interactive devices such as special glasses or gloves with sensors to create a 3D visual environment thereby giving a "being there" effect on the user.

  4. In Tourism: With Virtual Reality, tourism can begin right from the house even before arriving at your chosen destination. VR in tourism can be said to be a pre-trip guide. It enables the user to capture tourism destinations in a unique and immersive way making it easier for them to imagine themselves at the travel location. 
  5. In Entertainment: The benefits and use of Virtual Reality in entertainment are immense. Ranging from gaming to gallery and museum exhibitions to concerts and movies, entertainment not only is enjoyable but becomes realistic to give a lasting experience.

Virtual Reality generally can be employed in several workplaces to train, empower and improve efficiency, cultivate safety, and take proper corrective actions in fixing hazards.  

     Furthermore, as to specialty, there are different categories of Virtual Reality training which primarily comprises; 

  1. Fully immersive simulations
  2. Semi-immersive simulations
  3. Non-immersive simulations.

 

FULLY IMMERSIVE SIMULATION

Oftentimes, the term "Virtual Reality" is often considered only to portray the fully-immersive VR, however, Virtual Reality is only a concept with different categories One could specialize in. The fully immersive simulations typically remove the user from the real world and immerse the user totally in an artificial or virtual environment. Here, the users are completely isolated from the physical environment. Fully immersive Virtual Reality is being projected to have a massive advancement decade as it heads towards being a mainstream technology.

 

SEMI IMMERSIVE SIMULATION

An illustrative example If a semi-immersive simulation is a virtual tour where the user experience is more of a visual one with no physical sensation to enhance the experience. Semi-immersive VR is not only devised based but also web-based and is commonly used in the aviation sector for mixed-reality training. 

 

NON-IMMERSIVE SIMULATION

Non-immersive Virtual Reality can be considered as the birth of virtual reality. Non-immersive VR creates a peripheral awareness of reality outside the VR simulation. It allows users to experience VR through a display device such as a PC, tablet, smartphone, or large projector system. In essence, participants are external observers having superficial control of what is displayed. This Virtual Reality is majorly employed in gaming in which a system detects the user's motion and translates it on the screen.

 

The possibilities of Virtual Reality is endless, nonetheless, there is no model without limitations, and some of the limitations in Virtual Reality includes; 

  • Lack of understanding or technical knowhow 
  • Possibility of causing eye damage or fatigue
  • Probable addiction 
  • The bulkiness of VR devices and VR software
  • Cost of VR devices.

However, Virtual Reality poses more possibilities than limitations which make Virtual Reality training programs worth it, for not only is it modern technology, it is also REVOLUTIONARY.
